Colophon

Reference, my personal site, was built using Claude Code (of course) with eleventy, a static site generator, and is deployed on Netlify.

Design:

I have used publicly available sources for design and design inspiration.

  1. The book format in Projects uses Robin Sloan’s online ebook template. It is beautifully simple, and quite elegant. I adjusted the CSS to use the site font and design.
  2. The dropdown menu design is from Brian Lovin, who very politely posted his entire website design to GitHub.
  3. Reference Header: transparently, I don’t know who made this insanely cool mosaic type generator but it’s the best one I’ve found by a long shot.
  4. Craig Mod & Robin Sloan are perennial inspirations, both as writers and designers.

Photography/Corkboard:

Photos are taken with a Ricoh GRIII or a slightly dinged up Canon Rebel film camera. If I found a poster or image I’ve added that wasn’t mine, I’ve noted the source.

Tyopgraphy:

This site uses a blend of source serif 4, available via Google Fonts, as well as limited uses of Rakkas, also available via Google Fonts but found via free faces gallery, a great spot to find beautiful, open source type faces

Color Scheme:

The site uses a basic white/cream as the base with blue accents in #2358FF, which adds a nice brightness to what would otherwise be a relatively boring page.

Mound of Butter:

The image on the home page, Mound of Butter was painted by Antoine Vollon and is housed in the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. If you haven’t visited the National Gallery I cannot recommend it enough.
